WILD BIRDS

The Golden Eagle
The Berkut (or Golden Eagle, Aquila chrysaetos) is a large bird of prey native to the Northern Hemisphere. Known for its impressive hunting skills, powerful build, and sharp vision, this eagle is one of the most widely distributed species of its kind. Berkuts are revered for their hunting prowess, often used by falconers, particularly in Central Asia.
These birds primarily prey on small mammals, birds, and even larger animals like foxes and young deer. With a wingspan that can reach over 2 meters, Golden Eagles are strong and agile in flight, symbolizing strength and freedom in many cultures.
About project
Wild birds are not just magnificent birds of prey; they play a crucial role in maintaining the health of our ecosystems. This project aims to explore the various species of birds, their habitats, and their importance in biodiversity and ecological balance.
Through research, community engagement, and conservation efforts, we seek to highlight the challenges these majestic birds face, including habitat loss, pollution, and climate change.
Our project will involve a comprehensive study of eagle populations in our region, focusing on their feeding habits, nesting behaviors, and migratory patterns. By collaborating with local wildlife organizations, schools, and community members, we will raise awareness about the significance of eagles and the threats they encounter.
Through educational workshops, interactive field trips, and community events, we hope to inspire a deeper appreciation for these powerful birds and foster a commitment to their conservation. Together, we can ensure that future generations will continue to witness the beauty and strength of eagles soaring through our skies.

Project overview:
Eagle rehabilitation and conservation
Thanks to dedicated individuals and specialists who rescue injured and ill eagles, as well as various other bird species, we still have a chance to preserve their populations. These experts not only treat the birds but also release them back into the wild, fostering awareness among the public and farmers, who often resort to culling eagles due to their occasional predation on poultry.
We would like to emphasize that Berkuts are endangered species in Armenia and are included in the Red Book.
Golden Eagles, or Berkuts, play a vital role in their ecosystems as apex predators. By preying on small to medium-sized mammals, birds, and carrion, they help regulate populations of various species, which maintains a balance in the ecosystem.
This predation controls herbivore populations, preventing overgrazing, which in turn supports vegetation growth and habitat health. Their scavenging also reduces the spread of disease, as they consume animal carcasses also weak and diseased animals that could otherwise attract pests.
Additionally, their nesting habits can influence the structure of habitats, as abandoned nests may become shelters for other animals, further promoting biodiversity. Protecting Berkuts and their habitats thus has a positive cascading effect, benefiting the overall stability and health of ecosystems where they are present.
Here is one of many stories of
Berkuts, he is called Typhoon:
Our goal is to enhance the rehabilitation facility by building additional aviaries, as currently, each enclosure can only accommodate one eagle or bird. These improvements will significantly expand our capacity to care for and rescue eagles. Often, due to limited space, Dr. Hovhannes must provide assistance in the wild, where the birds do not receive the proper treatment and care they need for full recovery.
With more resources, we can ensure that these majestic creatures receive the rehabilitation they deserve before their return to the wild. A fledgling thrown from its nest by its own congener. (This conduct is very common for this breed). When discovered by a local shepherd, one of its wings was badly injured.
The shepherd's only choice for its proper care was Hovhannes, a trusted rehabilitator and rare professional known for his commitment to wildlife and who was a multiple participant of International Association for Falconry and Conservation of Birds of Prey (IAF).
Dr. Hovhannes nurtured and treated Typhoon (not only ), transforming him into the magnificent bird he is today. Soon, Typhoon will embark on his journey into the wild mountains and cliffs of the Goris region in Armenia.
REX SHELTER
"Rex shelter" is a compassionate initiative dedicated to providing shelter, care, and love to abandoned and stray dogs.
Our mission is to create a safe and nurturing environment where every dog can find healing, happiness, and, eventually, a loving forever home. Through this shelter, we aim to inspire kindness and promote responsible pet ownership in the community.
The shelter seeks to become a beacon of hope for neglected animals, where every dog finds a warm bed, proper medical care, and a team of caregivers who understand and respond to their unique needs. We aspire to transform the lives of dogs while also educating the community on animal welfare, fostering a culture of empathy and responsibility.

Core objectives
Rescue and Rehabilitation: Provide immediate shelter, veterinary care, and rehabilitation to stray and abandoned dogs.
Adoption: Help rehabilitated dogs find permanent homes through adoption programs and partnerships with local families.
Community Outreach and Education: Raise awareness about the importance of humane treatment for animals, responsible pet ownership, and the impact of stray populations on the community.
With "Rex shelter," its goal is to be more than a shelter—it is a place where lives change, both for the animals we save and the community we serve. By building a caring network of volunteers, donors, and animal lovers, we hope to create a better future, one rescued dog at a time.
Our aim is to provide food and care as well as enhance the habitat of dogs.
Due to the improper living conditions, they have to face cold and mud in winter and wet weather. There are not enough aviaries and those available lack sufficient insulation for winter temperature. Roman had to contend with these deficiencies, making every effort to mitigate the challenges.
Roman, the founder of the shelter
Two years ago, when Roman came across a dog that had been hit by a car, he couldn’t just leave. The dog was in a critical condition, with survival seemed to be a hardly possibil. Yet, filled with compassion, Roman decided to do his best to save her life.
Day after day, he cared for the dog with extraordinary patience, warmth, and dedication. Thanks to his love and perseverance, a small miracle happened—the dog, whom no one expected to survive, made a full recovery. Roman named her Tobby.
Since then, Tobby has become not only a symbol of resilience and loyalty but also a faithful friend to Roman. Today, Roman’s shelter is home to many other dogs, each one rescued from danger and loneliness.
In the video, one can see Tobby responding to her rescuer with tenderness and devotion, proving that kindness and love truly make wonders.
The toughest challenge, however, was still ahead. A wave of distemper swept through the shelter, infecting all seventy dogs. No one believed they could survive such a terrible illness. Everyone abandoned Roman, leaving him to face the ordeal alone.
It was a tough time, but he could see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Yet, his unbreakable will and deep love for his dogs helped him withstand this daunting trial. With extraordinary perseverance, he struggled for each life, aided only by the online guidance of two veterinarians from abroad. Against all odds, the shelter overcame the disease, and the darkest days were finally behind them. Tragically, one dog could not be saved, but Roman’s resilience had preserved the lives of the rest.
